Naoki Yamamoto

When I am on a flight that is landing at Itami Airport, I always gaze at the scenery out the window. While feeling the pilot's manipulation of the plane with my body, I try not to miss any of the changes in the cityscape stretching out endlessly down below during the descent. With Abeno Harukas to the left, the plane flies over Osaka Castle and the Yodo River as if gliding. I am interested in the spatial transition as the houses that had looked as little as grains of rice rapidly become bigger, and in the space filled with a diffused reflection of light due to the smog floating above the city.
I also feel an interest in the way that the existence of the city, like a thin skin covering the earth, hangs on a precarious balance, and in the communication among the people teeming in its streets.
Naoki Yamamoto
